North Metro Technical College Undergoes Brief Lockdown
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A technical college in the north metro went under lockdown for about an hour Thursday afternoon.
Anoka Technical College went into lockdown around noon, with officials telling students to get to a secure location and lock the doors.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the all clear was given. Authorities on the scene reported that all students were safe.
According to the Anoka Police Department, a caller reported a suspicious person at Anoka Technical College at 11:20 a.m. Staff at the college initiated a lockdown.
About 20 minutes later, Coon Rapids Police responded to Anoka Ramsey Community College. A caller, who was not at the college, said their sibling texted them and said there was a male with a gun hiding at the college.
Shortly after that, around 11:45 p.m., Anoka Police received information from dispatch that there may be a shooter at Anoka Technical College. At the same time, security at Anoka Ramsey Community College notified Coon Rapids Police the reported shooter was actually at Anoka Tech.
Law enforcement secured the Anoka Tech building and located the person who texted about the shooter. The person said they sent the text after the lockdown was initiated and had not seen any guns or weapons.
Police also searched the building for the suspicious person and did not find them. No one at the college reported seeing any weapons or being threatened or injured, according to police.
