Charges: N.D. Woman Leaves 2 Kids In Home Without Plumbing

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — A Devils Lake woman accused of leaving her 9- and 13-year-old daughters alone for days at a time in a filthy mobile home with no plumbing has been sentenced to three years of probation.

Forty-nine-year-old Antoinette Liggett recently pleaded guilty to a felony child neglect charge. Her sentence includes about four months at a re-entry center in Devils Lake.

Authorities say Liggett's home had no running water, no furnace heat and a non-functioning toilet. They say the home had portable heaters, and containers in the bathroom that were being used as toilets. The home was littered with dog and cat feces and garbage.

The investigation was initiated earlier this year when authorities discovered neither girl was attending school regularly.
