North Dakota COVID-19 Hospitalizations Back Over 300 Mark

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota health officials on Sunday reported 19 new hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, putting the number of patients requiring treatment in medical facilities back over the 300 mark.

The update showed 1,150 positive COVID-19 tests in the last day, for a total of 72,683 cases since the start of the pandemic. Cass County recorded 183 new cases, followed by Burleigh County with 159 and Ward County with 127.

There are 315 people hospitalized due to complications from the virus. Data released by state officials Saturday showed 22 staffed intensive care unit beds and 229 staffed inpatient beds available statewide.

There were about 2,412 new cases per 100,000 people in North Dakota over the past two weeks, which ranks first in the country for new cases per capita, according to figures compiled Saturday by The COVID Tracking Project. One in every 88 people in North Dakota tested positive in the past week.

State officials confirmed six deaths in the last day, for a total of 840 fatalities.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
