NEXT Weather: Strong winds blowing in big cooldown

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report from Nov. 16, 2023

MINNEAPOLIS — Enjoy the last few hours of warmth Thursday before we're back to autumnal reality.

Highs will reach into the mid-to-upper 60s in the Twin Cities, which is record territory. The current record is 68 degrees, set in 1953.

The wind will make it challenging to actually enjoy the warmth, with gusts of up to 40 mph in the metro.

Southern Minnesota could see gusts of up to 50 mph, with several counties under wind advisories until 7 p.m.

A cold front passes through Thursday evening, dropping lows closer to 30 degrees.

Wind chills will fall into the 30s by evening, and then will drop further into the 20s by Friday morning.

High pressure brings sunshine and calmer winds back Friday into the weekend, with highs a bit more seasonable in the mid-40s.

Temperatures will warm into the low-50s this weekend and it will stay dry, aside from a few isolated sprinkles on Saturday afternoon.

Our next chance for rain, albeit minimal, arrives late Sunday, with another moisture-starved system.

That will reinforce the cold, with highs by Thanksgiving back into the upper 20s and low 30s, with lows in the teens.
