NEXT Weather: Twin Cities set record for earliest 70-degree day

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report on March 3, 2024

MINNEAPOLIS — Sunday is a record-setting weather day in the Twin Cities in multiple ways.

As of 3 p.m., a high of 72 had been registered at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. That not only breaks the previous daily record high (65 in 1905), but it's the earliest 70-degree day on record. The previous mark was March 5, recorded in 2000.

Aside from the record warmth, Sunday will continue to be windy, with gusts reaching 35-40 mph. WInds should relax after 8 p.m. or so.

Another front will arrive later on, but it likely won't bring much moisture with it. There could be a few showers in the evening, especially east of Interstate 35 and in far northern Minnesota, but it won't be impactful.

There are a few rain and snow showers possible on Monday for the Twin Cities and areas south and east.

Behind that front, temperatures will drop. Highs will top out in the 40s most of the week, and we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. A weak system will bring a chance for rain and snow late in the week.
