NEXT Weather: Rain, snow roll through Minnesota overnight

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report

MINNEAPOLIS -- Prepare for precipitation starting late Tuesday, with a system set to bring rain to the southern half of the state and snow up north.

Rain will fall in the metro from about 10 p.m. through 3 a.m. Wednesday. Up north – Moorhead, Alexandria, Bemidji, Walker – there will be a period of snowfall at a rate of 1 inch per hour during that same timeframe, resulting in 3-8 inches of accumulation.

Wednesday will be cloudy, with temperatures largely similar to Tuesday's. Wednesday will also be one for the record books -- the 114th straight day that snow has been on the ground in the metro. That will put this streak at the number 10 spot for longest runs in recorded history, dating back to 1899.

There will be a nuisance drip or flake Thursday in the metro, but next storm is mainly a miss to the south.

Friday and Saturday may feature the warmest temps of the month so far, in the mid-to-upper 40s.

Temps will remain below average next week.
