NEXT Weather Alert: Snow, strong winds possible in western, northern MN later this week

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. weather report

MINNEAPOLIS -- The first widespread accumulating snow of the season is possible in northern and western Minnesota later this week.

On Tuesday, the WCCO NEXT Weather Team issued a NEXT Weather Alert for Thursday night into Friday. While widespread snow is possible, the primary concern is damaging winds.

Meanwhile, hit-and-miss showers will continue through the evening Tuesday.

Wednesday and Thursday will both feature highs in the 60s, and more showers.

Much of northern Minnesota, as well as eastern Minnesota as far south as Fergus Falls, is under a winter storm watch from Wednesday night through Friday afternoon.

In addition to the snow, there's also severe thunderstorms possible for the Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota before the cold air arrives.

Friday will be much cooler in the Twin Cities, with temperatures expected to top out in the lower 30s. Snow showers are also possible in the metro.

Things will dry out over the weekend, but it will stay cold into next week.
