NEXT Weather: Frigid overnight before Thursday warmup, light snow on Friday

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bitter cold is following on the snow-covered coattails of the storm system that hammered parts of Minnesota Tuesday.

Most of the Twin Cities metro is still digging out from the 7-9 inches of accumulation, and snow emergencies are still in effect in Minneapolis, St. Paul and many other towns.

It will be a cold Wednesday night in the metro, which will have a low of 10 degrees, but with lighter winds. Feels-like temps in the overnight will be in the single digits, and even below zero in some areas.

It will warm into the low 30s Thursday – which is below average – with a partly cloudy sky, and it stays breezy.

The warmest day is Friday. We should hit the mid 30s -- which is near average -- with a chance of light rain to snow later in the day. Most of the state, including the metro, should expect an inch or less of accumulation.

Once the cold front passes, we will chill. It will be very windy Saturday, with highs stuck in the teens.

Sunday looks much nicer, with highs in the upper 20s.
