NEXT Weather: Another springtime winter storm arrives Tuesday

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report

MINNEAPOLIS – A NEXT Weather Alert is being issued Tuesday for another messy spring storm.

A whole lot of moisture is coming to Minnesota between Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon.

A massive storm will trigger blizzard warnings in northwestern and north-central Minnesota, with strong winds and a foot of snow possible for several towns. Expect more wet, heavy snow that will cling to trees and possibly down power lines.

A winter storm warning is in effect across northern Minnesota, and there is a winter weather advisory for western and southwestern Minnesota due to the threat of icing on the road surfaces.

The Twin Cities, southeastern and extreme southern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin will be seeing plenty of rain from this storm system.

The metro could start seeing some flakes late Tuesday morning, with a quick changeover to rain. Don't be shocked if you hear some rumbles of thunder later in the evening. There could also be some stray flurries in the metro Wednesday afternoon. The metro will likely only get a tenth of an inch of accumulation by Wednesday evening.

Northeastern Minnesota and the Arrowhead region will likely see the most accumulation, with models predicting anywhere between 6-16 inches. But don't get caught up on the numbers – get caught up on the effect. It's going to be terrible getting around in the northwest, not so good in central Minnesota, and fine elsewhere.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the high 30s in the metro. Thursday's high will drop to 35, making it the coldest Minnesota Twins opener ever at Target Field. But temps will warm up into the high 40s Friday, and Easter weekend will be dry and comfortable, with highs in the mid-to-high 50s.
