NEXT Weather Alert: Severe storms possible on Fourth of July

NEXT Weather: 10 p.m. report from July 3, 2023

MINNEAPOLIS – We are in the midst of back-to-back NEXT Weather Alert days, as we prepare for scattered severe thunderstorms Tuesday that will impact fireworks plans.

Isolated thunderstorms move in overnight Tuesday, and a few could be stronger or even severe, mainly in western Minnesota.

The Fourth of July holiday will again be hot, with a high of 90 in the metro. There will also be an off-and-on thunderstorm threat across the state. Any storms that form from late Tuesday afternoon through midnight could be severe, with hail and wind the main threats. Localized flooding is also possible.

Wednesday now looks to be drier, and significantly cooler, with highs dropping below 80. After that, it will stay seasonal through the rest of the week. Thursday and Friday are shaping up to be stunners.
