Next Weather: Spring ends with 101-degree day; summer starts with humidity drop
MINNEAPOLIS – The last day of spring in Minnesota set a daily record, with a high of 101 degrees in the Twin Cities.
It was the first time in four years that we got into the triple digits. May 28, 2018, was the last time we hit 100.
Monday was also the warmest day in nearly a decade. We last hit 102 degrees back on July 6, 2012.
Severe storms have been rolling across Minnesota Monday night, moving from the southwest to the northeast. The system will reach the metro after midnight, but it may only lead to a few showers. Heavy rains will be falling in northeastern Minnesota through the overnight.
The excessive heat warning and heat advisory are both set to expire at 1 a.m. Tuesday. Dew points will start to drop like a rock Tuesday -- which is the summer solstice -- and it will be more comfortable the next couple days, but still very hot. Tuesday's high in the metro will be 90, and it will be a breezy one, with winds blowing from the west.
Wednesday's high will be a couple degrees cooler, but we'll hit 90 again on Thursday. Our next chance for precipitation will be late Thursday into early Friday.
We're in for a cooldown this weekend, with comfortable air and highs in the 70s, which is below average.
