1st of 2 rounds of March snow arrives in Minnesota late Thursday
MINNEAPOLIS — Thursday will be mostly cloudy and dry until the first of two storms rolls across Minnesota.
Thursday's high temperature in the Twin Cities is 35 degrees. A winter weather advisory is in place from 7 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday.
Light snow is expected to begin falling in western Minnesota beginning at 7 p.m. and will reach the Twin Cities by 9 p.m. This first, fairly quick-moving system is expected to drop about 2-5 inches of snow, with a few spots potentially getting more.

The city of Elk River has already declared a snow event due to inclement weather. It means parking restrictions will go into effect from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Nightly parking restrictions will remain in effect until the snow event is lifted by city staff.
A NEXT Drive Alert will likely be in place for Friday's a.m. commute, though conditions should improve through the morning.

A high-pressure system will move in Friday night, clearing cloud cover into Saturday, which will make way for some sunshine early on.
Saturday will be mainly quiet until the second, more impactful storm system arrives. As of the latest forecast, snow will begin falling after 7 a.m. Sunday. The storm will also bring strong winds.
Warmer air is expected to move in Monday, which may transition this winter-like storm into rain, especially in southeastern Minnesota. Rain is expected to change back into all snow by evening as the storm exits to the north.
There is still plenty of uncertainty with the forecast, but NEXT Weather Alerts are possible from Sunday through Tuesday due to the sloppy mess.
Temps will remain in the 30s until Tuesday.
