New Scoring System Ranks MN 3rd For Best Hospitals

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota hospitals are some of the best in the nation, according to a new scoring system created by federal health officials.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is now using a five-star scale, based on patient satisfaction surveys.

The rankings are now shown on the "Hospital Compare" website.

Minnesota hospitals come in with an average rating of 3.9 stars.

The state tied with Nebraska for 3rd place nationwide. Maine and South Dakota tied for 1st with 4.10 stars. Wisconsin in 2nd with 4 stars.

Here's how some well-known Twin Cities hospitals did:

  • Mayo Clinic in Rochester: 4 stars.
  • Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis: 4 stars.
  • United Hospital in St. Paul: 3 stars.
  • Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis: 2 stars.
