Mental Health Calls In Ramsey Co. To Be Directed To Special Line

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Ramsey County 911 operators are following new protocol as of Tuesday.

In the past, operators would dispatch an officer to all mental health calls. Now, they are referring the calls that don't involve weapons or immediate danger to a separate mental health line.

On the new line, callers can get immediate mental health guidance.

"It's really about making a most appropriate connection between the need and the resource," said Scott Williams, the director of Emergency Operations in Ramsey County.

The number to the mental health line is 651-266-7900.
