Tee Off While You Wait To Take Off At MSP Airport

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Some travelers are changing their flight plans to get in a round of golf at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

MSP just opened a new, 12,000-square-foot golf facility, complete with a pro shop, a restaurant, a bar and lounge, a putting green and, of course, golf simulators.

There are six simulators that allow guests to play 54 courses from around the globe. Slot times are offered in increments as short as 15 minutes.

But officials said there is plenty of time to play a full 18 as the average layover at MSP is an hour and 20 minutes.

There's even a staff of golf pros that can give guests a quick lesson in that much time.

"We have some routine customers, I can think of one out of Montana right now, who his wife knows he plays golf here every single week. Sometimes twice a week, if everything works out well. There's people that are telling us they're routing their connection through here. And there's also people that are making it a point to make sure that they have enough time to spend here by either showing up for their flight early, or being okay with a longer layover," Joel Burger, of Wexford Golf, said.

Patrons cannot bring their own golf clubs. The new facility will provide them because TSA considers golf clubs a weapon.

David McCoy went to check it out, and found that you might actually start hoping your flight gets delayed.
