Mudslide Closes Southbound Highway 169 In Southern Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A stretch of southbound Highway 169 in southern Minnesota is closed due to a mudslide Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

MnDOT says the closure is just south of St. Peter, between MN-295 and 367th Avenue in Kasota.

"We've had some spots where the mud slides came down, they hit the Jersey barrier wall and went into the northbound lanes," said MnDOT Highway Maintenance Supervisor, Tony DeSantiago. "We've had that happen three times today."

Because the Bluffs remain so unstable and so unpredictable, more slides are still expected.

MnDOT says southbound Highway 169 will remain closed throughout the night and they will reassess tomorrow.

Motorists are advised to use caution and seek alternative routes.
