Mpls. Teen Pleads Guilty To Fatally Shooting Man Protecting Son
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis teen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday in a case involving the shooting death of man who was defending his son.
According to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, 17-year-old Joshua Ford fatally shot 38-year-old Andrew Billingsley Jr. on July 24 in north Minneapolis.
Billingsley boarded a Metro Transit bus that evening after his son called him, claiming Ford and his friends were harassing him.
According to court documents, Ford showed Billingsley he had a gun and told him to exit the bus. Ford then followed him and shot him several times.
Ford may be sentenced on Oct. 27 to more than 33 years in prison -- which is about eight years more than sentencing guidelines recommend due to what the attorney's office calls "aggravating circumstances."
