Mpls. Police: 12-Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A standoff in south Minneapolis ended peacefully after nearly half a day, according to police.
Officers were called to a domestic situation on the 2400 block of 12th Avenue South just after 7 p.m. Friday.
They say a woman and two children got out of the house safely, but a man and his son remained inside.
Officers did not know if the man had a weapon, so extra precautions were taken.
"I think you can see with what we had here obviously with a large area that is quardened off with multiple officers on scene, not only officers safety but also the safety of the people inside the house as well as the neighbors that live next door is very important to us so we take it seriously," said Minneapolis Police Public Information Officer Corey Schmidt.
Nearby homes were evacuated throughout the night and the area was blocked off.
The standoff ended at 6 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
Everyone has been allowed to return home and streets are back open as of early Saturday morning. The man is now in custody.
