Mpls. Office Workers Battle For Best Holiday Cubicle
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The sales office at the W Hotel at The Foshay in downtown Minneapolis looks awfully festive.
There's a winter wonderland, presents and stockings hung with care.
And then there's Angela Westfield's log cabin.
Her co-worker, Matt, says he uttered a swear word when first gazing upon Angela's cubicle.
"I literally couldn't believe it," Matt said.
It's all part of an interoffice competition.
"We had kind of free reign, we could do whatever we wanted and just in the holiday theme," Angela said.
She accepted the challenge wholeheartedly.
"I love the idea of log cabin Christmas, I always have. Really cozy, log-cabin feel," she said.
She enlisted the help of her husband, Alex, who rounded up dozens of carpet tubes. He then trimmed each one to make it the perfect length.
They started in the garage, and then moved to the office.
"We got a kind of a template. We had to do the notches like Lincoln logs," Angela said. "We got fake snow, cotton balls, fishing line, my mom brought bunch of stuff ... and then we got some extras and just kind of put it all together."
Step inside and there's a Christmas village, and treats.
"My first question was, 'How many hours, how long were you possibly here this weekend?'" said co-worker Marisa.
Angela says she's somewhat embarrassed to say they spend 18 hours creating the festive log cabin.
It is all in an effort to spread some holiday cheer, and maybe, just maybe enough to beat out her competition.
Employees have until Wednesday to finish decorating. Then the winner will be announced on Monday, when the prize will be revealed.
