State Patrol: Biker Drove 150 MPH Before Hitting Semi

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says a motorcyclist is dead after a high-speed police chase on Interstate 35W near Forest Lake Tuesday.

A trooper attempted to stop a man on a 2013 Yamaha Racer at about 1:30 p.m. after he was clocked in at about 120 miles per hour, but he fled.

The driver, who has been identified as 36-year-old Samnang D. Lenh of St. Paul, proceeded to lead authorities on a chase where he reached speeds of 150 miles per hour.

Authorities called off the chase at one point, while traffic cameras continued to track the man's movements.

The state patrol says troopers restarted their pursuit after cameras spotted him speeding again near the I-35W - I-35E split.

The motorcyclist eventually slammed into the back of a grain hauler semi-truck just south of Highway 97 in Columbus Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver did not stop, and the state patrol believes they may have not been aware that their rig was stuck by the bike.

The state patrol is asking for anyone who witnessed the chase between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to contact them at 651-201-7100.
