Moorhead's Heritage Garden Vandalized Over Holiday Weekend
MOORHEAD, Minn. (WCCO/AP) — Moorhead police are looking for whoever vandalized the city's newly planted Heritage Garden over the Fourth of July weekend.
About 60 plants were uprooted, about a dozen light fixtures were stolen and a water pump was turned on, washing out grass seed.
Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams tells KFGO-AM the garden's plants were no ordinary plants. She says they were donated from people's gardens or taken from homes that were part of flood mitigation, and had "sort of a heritage to them."
Volunteers worked the dirt and set up the garden near Woodland Park.
The Butterfly Garden at Robert Asp Elementary School in Moorhead also was vandalized, and 20 plants stolen from that site. It's unknown if the two incidents are related.
Anyone who might have witnessed the vandalism or who might have information about the incident is asked to call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at (701) 451-7660 and speak with a Moorhead Police Department supervisor.
