MN Officials Begin Talks On Expanding Medical Pot To Chronic Pain Sufferers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota state officials will discuss whether to allow people with chronic pain access to medical marijuana.

That could make the drug available to thousands of more people. Right now, only people with one of nine qualifying conditions can buy medical marijuana.

Those conditions include glaucoma, seizures, and Crohn's Disease.
Since medical marijuana became available this summer... only about 360 patients have been cleared to buy it.

Patients suffering with chronic pain see medical marijuana as a way they could possibly go back to work and be more involved in their children's lives.

A public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rochester Public Library.

Several other meetings will be held around the state in the coming months.
