MN Grad, Team USA Member Rescues Strays In Sochi
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some of the puppies rescued at the Sochi Olympics are starting to come to the states. One member of the USA Men's Hockey Team, and his wife, brought home a couple of the strays. And, they have Minnesota ties.
St. Louis Blues Captain and Spring Lake Park graduate David Backes said there were two dogs and a few others that kept on showing up at the resort where the players' families were staying when they were in Sochi.
As the days went by, Sochi Junior and Sochi Hake, as Backes calls them, just wouldn't leave.
So he went through a lot of red tape to get the dogs out of Russia.
"By the end of it, those two were living in hotel rooms where they shouldn't of been, getting baths in bathtubs where they shouldn't have been," Backes said.
The dogs stayed with the Backeses on the 13-hour plane ride home.
After a quick potty break, they were taken away by a local animal shelter.
They will stay there for 30 days to make sure they are healthy before becoming available for adoption.
