Minnesotan Oilers Player Suffers Athletic Cup-Smashing Puck To Groin
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An NHL player who originally hails from Blaine crumpled to the ice in a Thursday night game after he was smacked by a puck to the groin.
Matt Hendricks, center for the Edmonton Oilers, played at Blaine High School and later at St. Cloud State.
In the Oilers' match against the Dallas Stars -- talk about adding insult to injury -- Hendricks caught a slapshot by Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski.
The puck found purchase in Hendricks' crotch, sending the player immediately down on the ice.
Hendricks was helped off the ice, and collapsed in the hall once again just outside the rink.
Later, Hendricks tweeted out an image of the damage the shot took on his protective gear, and thanking the cup's manufacturers for "saving" his "bacon."
