Heat, humidity should linger in Twin Cities going into the weekend, ahead of expected cooldown

MINNEAPOLIS — Heat and humidity will linger in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas Saturday, with an expected heat index of 90 degrees or above.

WCCO meteorologist Lisa Meadows says a front will drop south and throw a few showers and storms across the area into the night. There is a low chance of damaging winds and hail.

That front stalls out across southern Minnesota on Sunday and may spark a few more isolated storms, but there is some uncertainty about that.

Monday brings a better chance for rain as a wave of energy rides east along the front.

The bigger story on Monday and beyond will be a cooldown. Much of the week is expected to remain in that cooler pattern, with high temperatures lingering in the 70s.

There's another chance for storms toward Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
