Minnesota Vikings Working To Secure MLS Team

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Soccer fans around the world are watching the World Cup in Brazil, and Vikings Vice President Lester Bagley says he hopes the enthusiasm will continue into August, when Minnesota will host the Guinness International Champions Cup.

"We have two great European teams coming to town," Bagley said.

Manchester City will face Olympiakos at 2 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium.

"We are working on that, to kind of get our feet wet," he said.

Bagley said there are pockets of support for soccer in this community.

He said when the new stadium was built, the Wilf's were given exclusive rights to an MLS team.

MLS has said it wants to increase the number of teams in the league to 24, and Bagley said they want Minnesota to get one.

Bagley was guest on WCCO Radio's News and Views program with Roshini Rajkumar.
