Minnesota Tax Filing Season Opens Jan. 20

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Revenue says taxpayers can start filing their Minnesota tax forms on Jan. 20.

That's the same day that the IRS says taxpayers can start filing their 2014 returns.

Congress recently extended several tax breaks for Minnesota teachers, college students, homeowners and small businesses. The Revenue Department is asking state lawmakers to move quickly to make Minnesota's tax code conform to the updated federal laws by Jan. 20.

Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans says taking action by Jan. 20 will make sure Minnesota families and businesses can take advantage of the new benefits and provide a smooth opening to the tax filing season.

The Minnesota Legislature convenes its 2015 session Tuesday.
