Minnesota Serves Up Snow For Thanksgiving
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – In addition to turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, Minnesotans may be enjoying some snow this Thanksgiving.
While northern and southern Minnesota have already seen measurable snow fall this season, Thursday's storm will be the first measurable snow for the Twin Cities area.
WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman said the metro could see one to two inches of snow.
"Right now it looks like one to two inches of light snow will fall in the metro, but if the system shifts even 25 miles to the south, we could get skunked," he said.
Brickman said south central Minnesota and western Wisconsin could be in for more, predicting totals between two and four inches.
He predicts the snowfall won't begin until midday Thursday, which is good news for some travelers.
Those that are flying or driving on Wednesday should be in good shape, as only a light drizzle is expected in the late evening hours.
Those traveling south on Thanksgiving should head out early.
"The area of greatest concern is southeastern Minnesota, right on the rain/snow line, where sleet or freezing rain could develop. If that happens and then is covered up by snow, driving could become very dangerous by Thursday night," he said.
For northern travelers, roads should be clear throughout the day.
The snow is expected to continue from midday throughout the evening Thursday.
Wednesday is expected to be mild, with temperatures in the mid 30s to low 40s. As the clouds and warmer air moves into the area, fog could be possible throughout the afternoon.
