1 dead, 2 injured after shooting at apartment building near downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – A man is dead and two other people are hospitalized after a shooting at an apartment building south of downtown Minneapolis Sunday evening.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at a building on the 1500 block of Nicollet Avenue around 8:15 p.m., the Minneapolis Police Department said. At the scene, they found two men in their 20s and an 18-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

All three were taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where one of the men died. On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as 21-year-old Shavadis Givens. 

The other two have "potentially life-threatening" injuries, police said.

"Preliminary information at this time indicates that the shooting may have been the result of a previous altercation between an individual or individuals known to each other," MPD said.

WCCO spoke with a resident of the building who just got back home Sunday night from a weekend in Chicago.

"My neighbor knocked on the door and she was like, 'Michelle, three people got shot on the second floor,'" said Michelle Pippion. "It's crazy, it's scary. I'm ready to move, like ASAP, like I wish they would let me break my lease."

Police have made no arrests. The shooting is under investigation.
