Minneapolis Man Charged In Brutal Sex Assault Of Unconscious Woman
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 39-year-old Minneapolis man is in custody after allegedly committing a brutal sexual assault of an unconscious woman.
Justin Lee Ironhawk, 39, was charged Friday with first-degree sexual assault for an incident that happened between Jan. 16 and Jan.17, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
The criminal complaint says Ironhawk and his girlfriend invited the female victim to their residence for drinks. After the victim consumed three beverages, Ironhawk told her she could spend the night in their basement.
The victim told investigators she awoke the next morning to find Ironhawk lying next to her on blankets on the basement floor, and Ironhawk's girlfriend screaming at them.
The girlfriend then threw a bottle of vodka at her face. The victim grabbed what she thought was her cellphone and fled the residence.
The victim soon discovered that the phone actually belonged to Ironhawk, and contained three videos of him sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious.
Investigators say Ironhawk's hand, which features a tattoo of his last name, is highly visible in the videos.
The victim went to a local hospital, where a nurse confirmed that she exhibited several signs of sexual assault.
Police searched Ironhawk's home on Jan. 26, and were told at the front door by his girlfriend that he was not home. Ironhawk was soon found hiding in a closet.
The attorney's office says the state will pursue an aggravated sentence due to the severity of the assault.
Ironhawk is in Hennepin County Jail, and his bail has been set at $1 million. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
