Man shoots driver in Minneapolis, steals car, crashes into St. Paul house

MINNEAPOLIS — A man is fighting for his life and two people are in custody after a violent carjacking early Friday near Minneapolis' Loring Park.

Police say the victim was pulled out of his vehicle just before 2 a.m. on Oak Grove Street near Spruce Place, and at some point in the struggle the thief opened fire.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and is being treated at Hennepin Healthcare.

St. Paul police officers later spotted the victim's car near Sherburne Avenue and Mackubin Street in the Frogtown neighborhood, according to police. The suspect sped off, drove through a yard, hit a home and then a tree before he was arrested.

A woman traveling with him was also taken into custody. Police say they're still investigating.
