Minn. Man Gets Probation In Baby's Death In Van

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — A Moorhead man has avoided going to jail for the death of his baby daughter in a hot minivan last year.

Andrew Sandstrom was given a four-year suspended jail sentence and 10 years supervised probation Thursday.

Police say Sandstrom forgot about his 5-month-old daughter, Christiana, while unloading five other young children out of the vehicle in June.

In a deal with prosecutors, Sandstrom earlier agreed to plead guilty to second-degree manslaughter.

Clay County Attorney Brian Melton had recommended Sandstrom serve a year in jail.

Melton tells KFGO-AM it was as difficult case for everyone.
