Minn. House Passes Blue Alert System For Suspected Police Killers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- At the State Capitol, the Minnesota House voted overwhelmingly to set up a statewide alert system aimed at catching suspected police killers.
Like the Amber Alert to find children, the Blue Alert would be used to get the public's help to track down a suspect when police officers are killed or wounded.
Supporters say the alerts could help in situations like the killing of Mendota Heights Officer Scott Patrick last year.
The bill is now waiting for a vote in the Senate.
Similar systems are already in place in 20 other states.
