Minn. Couple's Concern Frees Bobcat From Trap
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A bobcat with a snare trap tightening around its neck got some much-needed medical attention this past week after a northern Minnesota couple saw it on their property and decided to help.
According to Wildwoods, an animal rehabilitation nonprofit, the couple contacted them after they saw the bobcat on their property. They saw the cat was a trap victim, and they put out a deer carcass for him to eat.
After getting approval from state and local officials, a Wildwoods volunteer captured the animal using a bait trap, the nonprofit said.
The bobcat was then brought to Duluth, where Dr. Lisa Jeanetta sedated him and removed the snare.
Wildwoods says the bobcat – which received the nickname Bob -- weighed about 23 pounds and suffered a deep, circular wound all about his neck.
As the wound began to heal, he scarfed down pounds of donated meat.
Bob is slated to be released on his home territory Friday morning.
