Middle School Student Hospitalized After 'Pool Incident'
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (WCCO) -- A seventh-grade student was taken to the hospital Thursday after what school officials are calling a "serious pool-related incident."
It happened at St. Louis Park Junior High at about 9 a.m.
Principal Les Bork sent a letter to parents and guardians informing them that the incident happened during a third-hour gym class.
The 12-year-old boy was in distress in the pool, according to a St. Louis Park district official. He was pulled from the pool and CPR was performed before he was brought to an area hospital. He was eventually transferred to Gillette Children's in St. Paul.
The boy's parents and siblings were notified.
Because of the incident, Bork said that conferences and after-school activities were canceled for Thursday night.
Students at the school say swim class is taken in seventh or eighth grade, and students who can't swim are allowed to stay in shallow water. It's not clear if the seventh-grader knew how to swim.
The district says all swim instructors are water safety certified.
