Metro Transit Customers Can Now Pay For Fares Via Smartphone App
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Getting on those Metro Transit buses and trains just got a lot easier.
Instead of finding the exact amount of change or remembering your Go-To Card (that you might not even have), mass transit customers in the Twin Cities can now pay for fares via a new smartphone app.
Metro Transit introduced the new free-to-download app Thursday, saying the app includes a mobile ticketing feature that allows users to purchase fares in advance. Users can display their fare on their smartphone as proof of payment.
Until now, getting new or infrequent mass transit riders to get on Metro Transit buses or trains has been a challenge.
"Mobile ticketing eliminates that barrier, allowing people to buy and use fares in real-time," Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb said. "Mobile ticketing is one of many ways to pay a fare, but it's one that we believe will move transit up on the list of options people consider when choosing how to get around."
The app is available to download on iOS and Android formats. It was developed in partnership with Portland, Oregon-based moovel.
