Meet Minneapolis Creates Hashtag For Visitors With ASG Questions

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Some are tucked away, others, out front, all working to roll out the welcome mat to baseball fans this week.

"It's just bringing our Minnesota Nice and spreading it to the world who's here for the All Star Game," Tara Olson Medina, of Spong, said.

Medina works with Minneapolis based Spong, a PR Agency. They have teamed up with Meet Minneapolis to make tourists feel at home while they are away.

They started a virtual concierge service. So, anyone with a question can tweet it to #askMPLS and get an answer.

These virtual concierges will answer any questions about the area 12 hours a day.

All you have to do is tweet hashtag "askMPLS."

And people are asking.

Some of the 1,000 plus questions they've already received are from people asking about kid-friendly day activities, local towing services and transportation via Lightrail, NiceRide or cab.

Cavan Reagan Reichmann, also with Spong, said some questions stick out more than others.

"Someone said 'I know it's 8:30 in the morning but I really want some pizza' and we found out there's some breakfast pizza near where he was so we pointed them in that direction," Reichmann said.

But most questions are about the transportation options.

For those looking for direction elsewhere, a green line has been painted on downtown sidewalks directing fans from Target Field to the Minenapolis Convention Center.

"The function of the green line is to get people from the convention center to Target Field and back by walking. So, if you're in town from out of town and you don't know how to get to FanFest Target Field, there's no excuse now," Kevin Smith, of the Minneapolis Twins organization, said.

If tweeting your question isn't your thing, other help options are available.

"Visitors Center at the Convention Center, DID ambassadors and anyone you see wearing a Meet Minneapolis shirt," Meet Minneapolis CEO, Melvin Tennant, said.

He says they can all help and of course the locals will likely have some answers, too. Nice ones, he says.
