MDH Warns Of Salmonella Investigation Into Powdered Nutrition Shakes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Officials at the Minnesota Department of Health say they're investigating salmonella cases linked to a brand of powdered nutrition shakes.
The MDH said an outbreak of the foodborne illness was linked to eating "Garden of Life Organic Shake and Meal Replacement" in Minnesota, Wisconsin and several other states.
So far, only two cases of the infection were reported to the MDH since Jan. 11 -- one of them involved a child, and the other was a man in his 30s.
Health officials say symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever, which usually begin 12 to 72 hours after exposure, but can begin up to a week later. If you think you might be infected, see a doctor as soon as you can.
The MDH recommends not eating any flavor of the product if purchased on or after Nov. 1, or with a "use by" date of 09/2017.
Health and agriculture officials are investigating.
