MDH Investigating Measles Cases Of 2 Unvaccinated Toddlers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota health officials are investigating cases of measles confirmed in two unvaccinated children in Hennepin County.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the department is working with local public health officials to investigate how the children became infected and are now working with people who were exposed to help them with protective actions.
"Measles is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes followed by a rash that typically spreads from head to the rest of the body. It is highly contagious and spreads easily by coughing, sneezing or even being in the same room with someone who has measles," MDH said in a statement.
The MDH says the best way to protect yourself and family from the disease is to make sure everyone has been vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.
Health officials will be monitoring for additional cases over the next few weeks.
