Mauer Hosts Lunch For Gillette Children's Hospital Patients

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer hosted a special lunch Tuesday at the ballpark.

It was part of the Twins Hope Week. He invited families of kids who are at Gillette Children's Hospital to a pizza lunch at Target Field. Mauer, along with TC. the Bear and some other players, spent time playing games and visiting with the kids.

"I think it's just a sense of normalcy. With some of the surgeries these kids get are eight, 10 hours, and a hospital is not a fun place to be. I think everybody knows that," Mauer said.

"This is an amazing event. It's so nice to be away from the stress of the hospital and all of our therapy appointments. It's amazing to be able to do something like this," parent Becky Miller said.

All week long, the players and other members of the Twins organization are holding events dedicated to different community groups. They include fishing outings, special baseball games and activities on the field.
