Maplewood Man Accused Of Killing Wife Captured In Illinois, Charged With Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 31-year-old Maplewood man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife in August.

The Ramsey County Attorney's Office says Larry Todd Tennin was arrested in Waukegan, Illinois by U.S. Marshalls and the Great Lakes Regional Task Force. A warrant had been issued for his arrest on Sept. 10 for parole violation.

He is accused of murdering his wife, 41-year-old April Tennin, on the morning of Aug. 23 in their Maplewood townhouse. Her three children, ages 12, 15 and 16, were in the townhouse at the time. One of the children called police after the shooting, while another child ran into the street to yell for help.

Tennin was out on parole from Moose Lake Correctional Facility, where he had been held for weapons violations. He has a long criminal history, which includes convictions for child endangerment and assaults.

"This sad and horrific crime underscores how quickly domestic violence can turn into homicide," Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said. "We will pursue this case vigorously to ensure that justice is done for the victim, her family and our community."

Tennin will appear in an Illinois county court before being extradited back to Minnesota.
