Man Shot At Sartell Strip Mall Dies, Suspect Charged With Murder
SARTELL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The 20-year-old man who was shot in the chest behind a strip mall in Sartell Thursday morning has died, according to Sartell Police.
Maurice Galvin Jr. of St. Cloud passed away at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.
On Friday morning, 23-year-old Demetreus Anthony McGinnis was formally charged with second-degree murder.
McGinnis allegedly shot Galvin Jr. behind the Sprint store in Sartell at 1733 Pine Cone Rd. S. just before noon on Thursday.
Police say the shooting was not a random act, as both Galvin Jr. and McGinnis knew each other.
According to a criminal complaint, McGinnis told a authorities that he got in a confrontation with someone behind the Spring store and "hurt somebody."
McGinnis is being held at the Stearns County Jail. His bail is set at $2,000,000.
If convicted, McGinnis faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.
