Man Arrested For 2nd Armed Standoff On Spring Lake Park Street In 10 Days

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 50-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he opened fire on law enforcement in Spring Lake Park Monday afternoon during a long standoff.

The Anoka County Sheriff's office says the situation started at about 11:18 a.m. after the man pointed a handgun at a neighbor on the 7700 block of Jackson Street Northeast. He fled into his home when law enforcement responded to the scene.

During the course of the nearly six-hour-long standoff, authorities say the man fired several shots from inside his residence -- four of which struck an armored SWAT team vehicle, and one struck an occupied home on the block.

At about 5 p.m., the man exited his residence, and officers seized the opportunity to keep him from going back inside his home. He was arrested, and is currently in the Anoka County Jail.

Authorities say the same man was involved in a standoff with law enforcement just 10 days ago at the same location.
