Man punched trooper on I-94 near downtown Minneapolis, state patrol says

MINNEAPOLIS — A man is in jail after he is said to have punched a state trooper in the face on Interstate 94 Friday night in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the trooper pulled over at about 10:30 p.m. to check on a man standing next to a stalled vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate's eastbound side at 3rd Avenue near downtown.

The man, 35, was a passenger of the car, and was "showing signs of impairment," according to the state patrol.

MnDOT camera footage shows several other squad cars arriving at the scene. The man gets back into the vehicle, and the trooper is seen walking around his squad and back towards the passenger side of the stopped vehicle. Another trooper is seen walking up.

The passenger then gets out of the car and appears to strike the first trooper. He is quickly detained by the troopers and placed into one of their squads.

He is being held in the Hennepin County Jail, where he awaits criminal charges. The state patrol says it's still investigating.
