Man in his 70s stabbed on walking path at Woodbury's Markgrafs Lake, police say

WOODBURY, Minn. — A man in his 70s was stabbed in broad daylight Thursday on a Woodbury walking path.

Police say it happened at about 3:30 p.m. on the south side of Markgrafs Lake.

The victim was found on the path and was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he's being treated for serious injuries. Police say he was unable to describe the attacker.

Investigators on Friday determined that the stabbing was not a random act.

"We've always felt quite safe on the path," said Colleen, a neighbor who has lived in the area for almost 30 years. "All the neighbors go on walks on the lake together."

She said she never expected something like this.

"Someone came to my door and I was informed that someone had been stabbed," said Colleen.

It was the victim's wife at Colleen's door asking for help. Colleen, her husband and neighbor did what they could for the man in his 70s.

"He was just leaning against the utility pole there because he was dizzy, I'm sure," said Colleen. "He was bleeding, I'm sure was on the verge of going into shock."

Police believe there is no threat to the community in connection with this case.
