St. Paul Police: Jeriko Boykin Dies Following Shooting, Rollover Crash That His Injured 4-Year-Old Son

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A father is dead and his 4-year-old son is injured after another night of violence in St. Paul.

It happened Sunday at about 5:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Wabasha Street. Someone shot 23-year-old Jeriko Boykin in the head, and his son was shot in the foot. The shooting ended with his vehicle crashing and rolling over.

"I don't know what I would do if [my son] wasn't here either," said Alicia Hudson, the boy's mother. "My life would be over."

Hudson said Boykin had two children and was a wonderful father. The shooting happened on her birthday.

"My birthday is never going to be the same, my kid's life is never going to be the same," Hudson said.

Tyree McRoy lives across the street from where the shooting happened. He was playing video games when he says he heard several gun shots.

"I had my twin sisters run to my room to be safe," McRoy said.

Boykin and Hudson's son is expected to recover from his injuries. Family said a vigil is planned at the scene for Monday night at 8 p.m.

Police think the shooter knew who they were targeting. That person has not been caught. Boykin's death is the 23rd homicide in St. Paul so far in 2019.
