Man Dies Of Heart Attack During Pond Hockey Championships

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A fun day on the ice turned tragic during a pond hockey tournament on Lake Minnetonka on Friday.

Greg Riebe had just finished up playing a game during the North American Pond Hockey Championships on Lake Minnetonka when he collapsed.

Despite efforts to save him, Riebe died of a heart attack.

His Excelsior Brewing Company teammates gathered on the ice Saturday morning to pay tribute to him.

The ice rink that was sponsored by his team, has now been turned into a memorial.

His teammates say Riebe appeared healthy and energetic during their first two games of the tournament.

They say there were no signs as to what was about to happen.

Riebe leaves behind a wife and two children.

If you'd like to help the family with funeral expenses, you can donate to the Greg Riebe Memorial Fund.
