Man Convicted In Shooting Of Friend In Front Of Kids
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 53-year-old Minneapolis man was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in Hennepin County Court Tuesday in the shooting death of 23-year-old Jeremiah Curtis.
The suspect, Eddie Niles Hubbard, had been friends with Curtis for a long time and was living with him and his girlfriend during May 2013 incident on the 2900 block of Girard Ave. N. in Minneapolis. Hubbard was also found guilty of second-degree assault for pointing the gun used in the shooting at Curtis' girlfriend. The incident happened in front of four kids ranging from an infant to 4 years old, according to court documents.
According to the criminal complaint, Curtis and his girlfriend were living off and on at Hubbard's home with her four children, two of whom were Curtis'. Hubbard had sent a text message to Curtis' girlfriend, asking them to move out.
While they were packing their belongings, Hubbard shouted up the stairs for Curtis to accompany him to the drug store, but Curtis said they were too busy packing. That's when Hubbard came to the upstairs bedroom and shot Curtis in the stomach before fleeing, the complaint said.
Hubbard will be sentenced June 16.
