Man Buys Fiancée Her Favorite Store For Christmas
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) --Being a loyal customer, Misty Maurer and her children had been wowed by all that dazzles inside one little store at St. Cloud's Crossroads Mall.
Already a busy full-time student and mom, Misty heard the owner of Bling was looking to sell. The owner has a fitting name -- Joy.
"She talks to you like you're best friends and you've known each other all your life," Misty said.
Joy Brandt opened Bling less than two years ago. She hadn't planned to move on so soon.
"I found out that I had a brain tumor, so the biggest thing they had told me was to get rid of the stress in your life," Joy said.
She is going to take it easy while she waits to see if doctors can operate. A couple weeks ago, she got a call from Jared Brigmon, who was looking to make Christmas bright for Misty -- his fiancée.
"I've had that feeling of success and being able to, you know, give them things. So I just wanted her to feel that," Jared said.
He planned a surprise with Joy for Misty.
"I was trying to trick her and figure out how to get her out of the house," he said. "I told her there's a present I had to pick up."
They piled the kids in the car Christmas Eve day and headed to the mall.
When they arrived, Jared gave her a box. Inside was a small key to a store -- the start to a big dream.
"He's amazing," Misty said. "I can't believe he pulled it off in the time he did. And it still brings me to tears."
Jared went above and beyond with this year's present. But Misty says the real gift will be showing her daughters that behind the glitz and glamour, a hardworking and determined woman shines on her own.
"This will help me show them that," Misty said.
She will officially take over the store in February, and will learn the ropes this month. But Joy says she's happy to come back and help out any time.
