Man Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff In Big Lake
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A six hour standoff with authorities ended Sunday with a 47-year-old Big Lake man being arrested, according to the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities were called at about 7 a.m. to the 17400 block of 165th Street in Big Lake Township on a report of a dispute between neighbors. When officers arrived, a man identified as Daniel Barenburg was carrying his shotgun towards a neighbor's home after telling 911 dispatchers he was planning on shooting his neighbor.
Authorities said Barenburg then fled back into his home and a standoff ensued.
Neighbors were evacuated and tactical teams were called from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office and Elk River Police to assist in negotiations with Barenburg. Just before 10 p.m., Barenburg surrendered to officers without incident. He's being held at the Sherburne County Jail on suspicion of terroristic threats.
The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Big Lake and Becker Police. There were no injuries in the standoff.
